I love this, Eric from the first word to that little shout at the end of the song.

Eric, what can I say, there are no words sufficient enough to define what you just accomplished. I can only repeat what I just heard;

Chris Martin singing Fix You, to a sea of people at Glastonbury 2016 and 2024 and another song I love, Free Bird, you had the guts, sheer determination and insane talent to combine these two incredible songs. Adding your daughter L’s beautiful voice .

You did it ! Holy shit, you did it. Excellent singing and playing and composing for that matter. Chris M. created and sent out a massive amount of love that hit that crowd like a tsunami. Compared to the emotional experience of listening to you and your daughter,

“…and endearing and stunningly beautiful all at once. Which pretty well describes the daughter I love so much.”

There is so much more , it is about life, lifting each other up. Your wife, your daughter, Kimberly W. , you ,and me, in the sharing. A tsunami of love, I would say, same.

Dearest Lor, Thank you for guiding me here 🙏🏼

Hi Lor,

Isn’t it funny? I was so burned/bummed out by the end of the recording process that I lost sight of the whole reason I started — to build something that is uniquely my own that is (hopefully) uplifting. The feeling of flight!

The way you and Susie Mawhinney (thank you for sharing this with her ) made me remember that feeling in the first place — when Chris Martin hops on stage and waves a spiral of light into the air like a call to arms… that moment and that sound arrangement is why I love Fix You.

I’m discovering there are many songs I can hold and juxtapose in my head like Freebird Unfixed… this particular experiment six months ago was my first and only try at recording anything. It’s responses like yours that make me think about trying again.

When I saw you replied in my notifications, the only words there were “Hi Lor”, I thought for a moment,oh no, he didn’t like what he just accomplished and had nothing to say in reply. Until I opened it and saw the rest of your response.

“…”to build something that is uniquely my own that is (hopefully) uplifting. The feeling of flight!” I can’t believe I missed C.M. sending out the spiral. Just went back to find it. Coldplay live in Toronto. That spiral of light resonates with “The feeling of flight” .

Oh do try it again. I’m fairly certain there is no one else standing on your mountain top with the same idea, and making it happen. You can tell L she is requested to do an encore performance with you. To be determined…

BTW, this is an interesting little video. C.M. obviously very emotional when someone else plays him one of his songs.

Ha isn’t that a little microcosm of it — “Hi Lor” bringing on a negative assumption when it was anything but.

Wait were you AT Glastonbury in 2016 and 2024?? That would be frigging amazing. Have never seen them live.

Will see what we can do with an encore performance — lots of ideas for lots of things are percolating now.

Looking forward to checking out your link!

First , thank you for the link. You know how sometimes you just hear the first few notes and you’re already on the verge of brimming emotions, this was that. What a beautiful, beautiful song, I’ve never heard it before. There is something, I think, that goes right to the heart , with just vocal and instrument. And, heck no, a Coldplay concert only exists in my dreamscape of concerts . I should have noted that I was using both shows as an example of crowd size and mass emotions. Though I have been to quite a few over the years, never that amount of humans in one space, outdoor or in stadiums. Too close for comfort these days. Though within the last couple of months, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Pat Metheny, and a couple of weeks ago, Bruce Hornsby and band.

I’m sure you can’t wait to introduce L to a world of music. ‘Yes, you’re going and you’re gonna love it, I promise. Awe Dad…’

I agree — just voice and instrument is a beautiful simplicity that shows the soul of the song. Light and sound… Musicians wield sound and writers wield light … sound moves, light informs

Love Bruce Hornsby and the Range — not as familiar with Metheny and need to check him out more.

Yes, L is the reason why I play.

Inspiring story. Magical song that goes under the skin and ignites the bones.

How is this angst even relevant, you write, with all the catastrophic shit happening in the world...

If more people had the courage to do what you're doing, perhaps we would be living in a different world? More scary and less catastrophic, maybe?

Leaping out of the cage that doesn't want us to change, and learning to fly in free fall must be one of the bravest things any human can do. Cheering you on 🦅

More scary and less catastrophic — exactly.

Learning to Fly and Free Falling are two of my favorite Tom Petty songs to play live — L gets up and does Free Falling and blows the doors off with it :)

you most likely opened that door for her

Yes and vice versa — I would not be singing/playing at all if not for her. My second time ever in public, more than a decade after the Freebird wedding, was playing background guitar for her while she sang What A Wonderful World in her 2nd grade talent show.

You know when your skin prickles with goosebumps, you know tears are forming but you try to hold them back because you're in a public place and you don't want to attract attention? I'm there... right here and now! I am teetering on the precipice of the love and harmony and sharing and hope and courage in your song trying not to fall over the edge...

Eric, I don't know how I've never found you before this 'blown away by your talent' moment... but thank goodness I'm here now! Thank you.

Woohoo!!!! You did it Eric!!!! So thrilled to see/hear/celebrate this here. And look at all that love in the comments. I hope you and your daughter can share some time together this week to bask in your beautiful creation. I'm listening to it again as I type this with tears welling up in my eyes, imagining what joy it must be for a father and daughter to bring their love into the world through song. Ok, so you shared it here. Next steps, a producer? An album? I have chills all over feeling the necessity of this song and its message, how much the world needs this right now. The co-existence of paradoxical states, leaving/freedom and staying/acceptance. Peace exists when both can be embraced.

Simply !Gorgeous! YOUR song. I not only love Cold Play and particularly the song "Fix You" -- You need to know that your song, the lyrics and the music soars--that last "Yaya" (hope I have that right) really got to me. You were so right to get that nudge from Kimberly.

Eric, I am so oversubscribed that I want to first thank you for subscribing and tell you that I return to every subscriber who takes the time to comment on anything, absolutely anything.

You are a treasure and I have a story in"Why I Came to Writing So Late" that parallels yours and how I found a way out of the corporate world. Let's support each other through comments on each others work. We will build community. That is how I found Kimberly and we are now, as you tell, close virtual friends.

Sending connection and hope ` Mary
