It’s catchy, yeah? My family is probably completely sick of hearing it at this point 😆 but they still can’t help humming it either :) Thanks so much for giving it a listen and sharing your immediate reaction.
Eric! What a wonderfully brilliant introduction, a new path. I am adding my ‘2 cents’ even before I have listened and read the lyrics. Happy for you my friend! I was just listening to Learning to Fly yesterday in the car, I said to my husband, turn it up, this is my favorite T.P. and the H song, and I love M and S. I’ll be back later when I have time to settle in in listen.
This poem immediately; came to mind;
The Road Not Taken
~Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
The two of you together - a heavenly duet... I listened twice, loved it even more the second! which is high praise from both a Mumford and TP fan, amazing work Eric.
You are very kind thank you Susie :) Gives me encouragement to release some more like these. They are two of my favorite songs from TP and M&S and I was surprised at how well they fit together.
Your voices together are so beautiful! And the tension of the two songs—flying, falling, and finding the ownership between the two (not your fault but mine…), I love what these compositions evoke!
First of all, let me just tell you, I broke into a smile starting with the first harmony and it only became wider throughout the entire song. I will even admit to being a little emotional with L’s gorgeous harmony, as well as the finely tuned father/ daughter element. Knowing the backstory, how Mary Tabor’s Lifeboat had profoundly influenced this song, I can feel it, hidden like an undercurrent, flowing through musical notes . Mary’s words hurt and burned , leaving us washed in sadness and somewhat exhausted in grief after reading , but at the same time, the love woven through her words were fathomless and eternal .You were able to take that and add it to your creative process. I hope you and L will continue sharing your passions together with future collabs . Wildly creative, and well beyond the definition of original. Amazing how well the T.S. portable music studio worked. ( Taylor would be proud, L ) .
This is why your Comments are so special. Not just the uncanny attention to detail and nuance, but your ability to suss out and articulate the emotional depth and deeper themes, making connections, sometimes better than the author themselves.
And I’m amazed the TSwift laptop works too — the hardware specs are all below the minimum requirements for the music production software, but hell — there’s probably more power on that little thing than all the greats had to work with
Dude! I love it, I feel wonderful hearing you two duetting, thanks, taking the dog out now and I’ll be humming that through the forest :)

Thank you Veronika.
Awesome! What a cool duet, thanks for sharing
Thanks Rob for listening!
Thank you so, E.T., for the dedication of this gorgeous song, so beautifully recorded and for the mention of my essay. I am quite moved.
You are more than welcome Mary.
Lor’s recent comment describes your essay’s influence in the song so well:
“Hurt and burned, washed in sadness and somewhat exhausted in grief, but at the same time, the love woven in (your) words are fathomless and eternal.”
